Lawrence Alvin Tonies

Lawrence Alvin Tonies (formerly of Grayslake, IL) passed away peacefully at New Horizon's Assisted
Living in Placentia, CA on May 15, 2023, with his beloved wife, Marilou and family by his side.
 
Lawrence, fondly known as Larry, was born on September 30, 1933, in Grayslake, IL. He was the
second and youngest son to Curtis Tonies and Irene (Eames) Tonies.
 
Larry attended Grayslake Community High School in Grayslake, IL. He later graduated from
Milwaukee School of Engineering, Milwaukee, WI in 1953. He furthered his education and received an MBA from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL.
 
In February 1954 Larry entered the United States Army. In the fall of that same year, he married the
love of his life, Marilou Murray. They celebrated 68 years together. Larry was a longtime employee of
Streeter Amet in Grayslake, IL where he was honored for creating several patents.
 
Family and friends were everything to Larry. He loved his family. He will be remembered by his
grandchildren as "Papa Crunches" because he loved to tickle and wrestle with them. He was also known as "Airplane Papa" to his grandchildren in California because he flew there to visit them. He
adored his grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
 
He and Marilou always looked forward to getting together with their lifelong Grayslake friends,
especially their weekly dinner dates.
 
Larry is preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Irene Tonies; brother, Charles (Chuck) Tonies and
son-in-law, James (Jim) Johnson.
 
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilou; their children Linda (Hass) Tebelmann, Cindy
Johnson, Mike Tonics, Jerry (Tori) Tonics; his seven grandchildren; Nick (Hannah), Missy, Shannon,
Noah, Grace, Samuel, Caleb; and his two great-granddaughters; Kinsey and Poppy.
 
The family will be celebration the life of Lawrence Tonies privately.
